The ACAMS Macau Chapter1 held its annual general meeting (AGM) on July 6, 2024. During the AGM, the board had delivered its annual report to the members of the chapter and invitees.
In recent years, the Macau Chapter has actively strengthened communication with government agencies and academic institutions, focusing on promoting and educating the industry and the public. In particular, the Macau Chapter collaborates with major universities, starting with anti-fraud campaigns and specialized anti-fraud lectures in various schools to raise awareness about fraud prevention and anti-money laundering (AML), especially among young people.
As part of the chapter’s outreach program, the following events were successfully convened in 2023 and 2024:
- A transaction monitoring seminar
- A forum on online fraud, scams and money laundering
- Outreach to middle school students
- Three online public campaigns on fraud and scams
The July event also featured notable speakers who spoke on AML and related topics, including, but not limited to, Wilson Vong, executive director, Monetary Authority of Macau, Priscilla Fong representing the Financial Intelligence Office, Unitary Police Service, and Ken Cheang, head of the Financial and Compliance Audit Department, Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, Macau.
In addition, the Macau Chapter actively participates in cooperation and information exchange with the Greater Bay Area and other international communities. By organizing professional AML courses and exchange meetings in mainland China and Macau’s higher education institutions and professional organizations, the Macau Chapter listens to insights from experts across various fields and industries, drawing on international best practices to contribute to Macau’s integration into the Greater Bay Area and national development.
Moving forward, the ACAMS Macau Chapter has three major goals for the remainder of 2024 and 2025. First, the chapter intends to continue to act professionally by strengthening research capabilities and achievements. Second, it will enhance cooperation with other professional institutions in order to cultivate professionalism and promote AML skill to the public. Third, it intends to foster communication with government agencies and the media to gain wider recognition in society.
